The weather was overcast but once we got above the clouds the sun was shining and the flight a little smoother. In ninety minutes, after a cheese sandwich and a glass of juice we will land in Germany.
This is where is all began. We are excited to be here in Germany. Books are being printed in German and should be finished in a month. Councils have come together and were very sucessful. Power Points and module training programs are being created. Our days are busy and go very fast, before we know it we've missed lunch. We are expecting proposals to be approved shortly, then watch it fly. We have testimonies of the work we are doing and the help that will be provided for addiction recovery.
... the beginning of a beautiful day for many people.
Setting Apart as Missionaries
Now in 18 months we will compare the growth of our grandchildren. Maybe will even have a few more in arms. I think a few will be walkers and talkers with hair.
Mark, MaLinda, Austin, Robert, Matthew and Tanner had to leave for home the day before we were set apart.
Kelly, Amy, Ryan, Brock, Kelsie and Emilee
Paul, Mindee, Sydnee, Thomas, Jessie and Luke
Jeff, Rachel, Abby, Kate, Carter and Libby
Brett, Sheri, and Quinton
The Vikings
Our Rose family line came with the Norsemen to England around the year 1100. This could be one of your ancestors in victorious pose.
Love Thy Neighbor in Sweden
Just thought you might like to see what it's like to live in your neighbor's backyard. If you wanted to borrow something you just had to open the window.
Sweden Airport
People look at our name badges but are too polite to ask questions so we tell them who we are and try to encourage their interest. In some countries it is illegal to proselyete on public transportation systems unless they request information.
Frankfurt Temple
I have had many opportunities to step out of my comfort zone. As eight of the missionary couples met at the Area Pres. home for dinner, Pres. Oak's turned to me and said, "Sister Atkinson, will you offer the prayer for us?" I thought to myself, "Me? In front of a medical doctor, a psychologist, a lawyer, an accountant, two Area Executive Secretaries, two Seventies, you're asking me to pray?" Then all of a sudden, the courage came. I put a smile on my face and said, "Thank you, I would be glad to." The Spirit touched my heart and I prayed beyond my ability. I know now that if I just desire and try, the Lord will make me capable.
On the Mountain Pilatus
Some of the meeting and issues we deal with remain confidential. Does it look like all we do is have fun!!! We do work every day at the office but some service requires travel and having a great companion who enjoys an adventure is alot of fun.
Switzerland a Dream Come True
I remember Great Grandma Feller who came from Switzerland. I remember her egg nog and German fritter pancakes. After her husband died at age 36 of tyhoid fever, she raised their 3 sons by herself. As a young child I attended her funeral. The night of her viewing, during a sudden rain storm, I dropped my very own package of juicy fruit gum in the gutter and watched it wash away. I started to cried. Thinking I was crying for Grandma, they showed me her small white slippers and her beautiful white dress. I quit crying because I knew I was looking at an angel. Her father, Christian Feller, spoke only German when they left Switzerland. Their first home was a dirt dugout in the hills near SLC. Their sacrifice has blessed our lives with the gospel.
What does your membership in the church mean to you?
McDonald's
I know you won't believe this picture... but this is our first hamburger in Germany, and it tasted good. There are very few fast foods here. We saved the french fry box to send Paul a letter. If it worked in Australia it should in Germany.
Countryside
We had two very successful meetings 75 miles South West. The GPS took us out into the Country where we drove through many small town. Each town had a narrow street with houses built next to the sidewalks. Each had a beautiful garden in the back yard. These large bails of hay were made to welcome visitors.
Traveling through the country side.
Map of Castles
Castles
We found the Castle Cinderella lives in, but she wasn't home. I think she was at the ball with the Prince. How would you like to scrub those floors? The Rhine River from Bingen to Koblenz had over 22 beautiful fortresses, some built during the Roman era.
Pfalzgrafenstein Castle
This castle was built to enforce tolls on the Rhine. It looks like a massive stone ship ploughing through the waters of the river.
Rheinstein Castle
This castle was built in 900. It is now a museum and a resturant with beautiful stained-glass windows, frescoes and armour guards. Would you little princesses like to live in this castles? You could sleep in a different bedroom every night.
Princess Party
And where are the real castles? Clue, look at the picture inside your jewelry box. That's where real dreams come true.
