Our Work Day and P-Day

We are preparing for a Germanic Regional Council meeting in August, which involves 1 council from 6 regions in Germany. Psychologists, Counselors, Social Workers and Mentors are coming together to report successes, problems, questions and receive training....The next Council meeting is in Sweden in Sept. We work in the area office from 9-5, our days fly by. The office building is being remodeled, new windows, marble siding, new paint, even new shrubs and flowers for the Sept. open house of the consolidation of Europe West and Central. What an exciting time to be here.

I thought you might enjoy a little history about Frankfurt on the Main. 794 is the earliest mention of Frankfurt as the only ford across the Main River allowing the town to grow in importance and it did. Today Frankfurt's has a population of 660,000 people.


Romerberg, (Roman Hill) the imperial palace was built in 75 AD and discovered in 1970. With its fountain walls and bath houses, it is the oldest city center of Frankfurt. Just imagine - that is 1,933 years old.



Near the Romer is the Imperial Cathedral where 33 of the 52 kings and emperors of Germany were elected. Their portraits are located in the Kaisersaal museum. Here is a picture of Germany in WWII with the Imperial Cathedral in the center.



Alte Nikokaikirche, the old church of St. Nicholas was built 1290 AD is located on the South side of the Romer Square. From our apartment we can hear the beautiful carillon of 35 bells which are sounded everyday at 9:05 am, 5:05 pm and 12:05 pm.



Romersberg opens up to the Paulsplatz where St. Paul's church stands, and where the first German nation Assembly was inaugurated on 18th of May 1848. Here is a picture of Saint Paul's Church in front of the unification monument. Close by is the birthplace and home of Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Germany's greatest writer. We are surrounded by a wealth of history that we can walk around and it just so happens that is what we like to do on our p-day.
